Spider-Noir canceled after one season

The Nicolas Cage show will not return after one season, but more Sony shows are in development at Amazon.

Prime Video has decided not to move forward with a second season of Spider-Noir, ending the Nicolas Cage-led superhero series after one season despite strong reviews and awards recognition.

The series was produced under Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television’s broader agreement to develop shows based on characters from Sony’s Spider-Man universe. While Spider-Noir will not continue, that partnership remains active, with multiple projects still in development. According to Deadline, one of those projects is nearing a series order, meaning Amazon could soon greenlight another Spider-Man-related show.

Nicolas Cage spoke on ‘Spider-Noir’ getting canceled after one season:

“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man. Onwards, upwards, inwards”

Spider-Noir launched strongly, debuting at No. 2 on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming chart for original series with 851 million minutes viewed during its first week. It generated 2.6 billion U.S. viewing minutes across its first six weeks and earned a 92% critics score and 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series also received 11 Emmy nominations, the most for any Prime Video series in 2026.

However, those numbers apparently weren’t enough to justify the show’s cost. Deadline reports that Spider-Noir was an expensive production, in part because the series was filmed in both color and black-and-white versions. While its viewership was respectable, it did not maintain the same level of momentum as some of Prime Video’s other recent series and dropped out of the platform’s daily Top 10 relatively quickly.

With streaming renewals increasingly driven by the relationship between production cost and audience performance, Deadline says that cost-to-viewership ratio likely played a major role in Amazon’s decision not to renew the series.

The cancellation does not appear to signal the end of Amazon and Sony’s Spider-Man television plans. The companies are continuing to develop multiple projects under their existing deal, including one that is reportedly close to receiving a full series order, according to Deadline.

Spider-Noir was the first series from the partnership to actually reach audiences. Another planned project, Silk: Spider Society, was previously scrapped before production.
