Players can claim a chunk of this. Here’s how you do it:

Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to pay $7.85M to settle a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of restricting competition and causing PlayStation users to pay higher prices for certain digital games.
The lawsuit stems from Sony’s 2019 decision to stop third-party retailers—including Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop—from selling download codes for individual PlayStation games. The plaintiffs argued that the change effectively made the PlayStation Store the only place where users could purchase digital copies of those games, allowing Sony to charge higher prices without competition from other retailers.
Sony denies violating any laws or engaging in wrongdoing. The company agreed to the settlement to avoid the cost and distraction of continuing the litigation, and the court has not ruled that Sony acted illegally.
The settlement covers an estimated 4.4M people in the United States who purchased qualifying games through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023. However, not every digital purchase made during that period is eligible.
Covered games must have previously been available through game-specific vouchers sold by outside retailers, received at least 200 voucher redemptions before April 2019 and experienced a post-discount price increase of at least 50 cents after Sony ended retail voucher sales.

How PlayStation Users Will Be Paid
Eligible users with active PlayStation Network accounts do not need to submit a claim. After attorneys’ fees, administrative expenses and other court-approved costs are deducted, the remaining money will be divided proportionally based on the number of qualifying purchases attributed to each account.
Credits will then be deposited automatically into users’ PSN wallets and can be spent on content sold through the PlayStation Store.
The settlement does not establish a fixed payout for each customer. Class counsel is requesting attorneys’ fees of up to 25% of the fund, while three class representatives could collectively receive as much as $30,000 in service awards. The amount received by each PlayStation user will therefore depend on the final deductions and their number of eligible purchases.
Customers with deactivated PSN accounts were allowed to request payment by check, but their August 27, 2026 deadline has now passed.
The agreement received preliminary approval after two earlier versions were rejected. In 2025, U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín characterized an earlier proposal as a “coupon settlement” and questioned whether it adequately compensated PlayStation customers.
A final fairness hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026. Payments will not be distributed unless the court grants final approval and any subsequent appeals are resolved.
The case is Caccuri et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Additional information is available through the official settlement notice.
