Kill Bill

Quentin Tarantino wants to make a ‘Kill Bill’ prequel

At the premiere for his new Fortnite short film Yuki’s Revenge, Quentin Tarantino discussed two potential spinoff ideas from his past projects, including a Kill Bill prequel.

Kill Bill

I was lucky enough to be invited by Epic Games to attend Quentin Tarantino’s The Lost Chapter:Yuki’s Revenge reveal at his Vista Theater in Los Angeles. Below are some key details discussed in a Q&A after with Tarantino and Uma Thurman.

Yuki

Quentin Tarantino originally had this Yuki’s Revenge concept in the Kill Bill script. It was fully written, but they had to scrap it due to budget concerns and the length of the project already being well over 4 hours.

The Fortnite version is exactly as written ‘with the exception of the Fortnite characters, no blood, and the blue stuff’. Tarantino hinted there will be a version of it in the extended cut of Kill Bill releasing in theaters that won’t include the Fortnite elements.

Uma Thurman had never done motion capture or worked on video games prior to this. She really enjoyed having no environment and just ‘relying on dialogue, the director, and instincts.’ Quentin Tarantino also performed motion capture for the first time and has a cameo in it as Bill.

Uma Thurman says Quentin Tarantino was much less stressed working on this Fortnite sequence compared to when they actually filmed Kill Bill. She compared it to the loose and fun shoot they had for Pulp Fiction.

Vega Brothers

The panel host repeatedly tried to ask Quentin Tarantino if he was interested in the medium of video games, or exploring motion capture further. Quentin Tarantino didn’t look at it like that. He looked at it for what it was, a way to do a lost chapter of Kill Bill, but did later say he may be interested in doing something in the world between anime and Unreal Engine. He mentioned a concept like the Vega Brothers.

I could see some world between this and Japanese anime that I could find some happy medium or, you know, between the things that I couldn’t physically do, like say the Vega Brothers movie, or something like that.

Finally, near the end of the panel, Quentin Tarantino was asked if he’d do more in the Kill Bill universe:

“We’ll see. I’ve got other things to do … I have a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind but I was wiped out. I like the idea of a Bill origin. And the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen”

Quentin Tarantino has also previously talked about making a followup to Kill Bill set 10-20 years later with some of the antagonists hunting down The Bride, including Vernata Green’s daughter Nikki. Despite his reinvigorated interest in the franchise, I doubt his tenth and final project will end up being that — and it was not something he mentioned during the Q&A. Next up for Tarantino is his first stage play, which is eyeing to open in London’s West End in 2026.

After the panel, I then attended the Fortnite Chapter 7 kickoff party which included In-N-Out catering, booze, and the first chance to play Chapter 7. Been a while since I’ve been around so many people with their phones out streaming and screaming while killing video game bots, but I had an amazing time.

I’d like to thank all of the Epic Games staff for putting on a great event — particularly Cass Villareal, Matty Gotz, Kolton Brulport, and my bartender Mario Tecuapacho who plugged me with some incredible pineapple rum drinks all night.
