John Leguizamo opens up about just how much voicing Sid in the Ice Age franchise has meant to him, both creatively and financially.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actor reflected on the lasting impact of the role, saying, “It paid my bills! It got me a second and a triple home. It paid for my kids’ college,” before adding that playing the lovable sloth also “allowed me to be really as funny as I want to be.”
“Movies are more dramatic usually, but in that, I got to be hilarious. I got to be so silly and create this incredible character and creature.”
Leguizamo has found himself back in the spotlight this summer thanks to his performance as Eumaeus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. While promoting the film, he admitted he was still surprised Nolan chose him for the role, saying he didn’t know why he had been cast. “I have no idea why he cast me.”

Leguizamo will reprise his role as Sid in Ice Age: Boiling Point, the sixth installment in the series, which is set to hit theaters on February 5, 2027. The upcoming film reunites several familiar voices from the franchise, including Ray Romano as Manny, Denis Leary as Diego, Queen Latifah as Ellie, and Simon Pegg as Buck.
