Halo: Campaign Evolved split-screen requirements revealed

Fans are unhappy with the requirements needed to play with your friends in real life on PlayStation.

Halo Campaign Evolved devs had a Q&A today and revealed the requirements for split-screen have been revealed. Below is what they said for each platform:

to play Halo: Campaign Evolved you will need a Microsoft account and XBOX Gamertag, regardless of the platform(s) you play on. This enables both cross-platform play and cross-platform progression. A few additional items to keep in mind for launch day include:

XBOX Series X|S: If you’re playing split-screen on an XBOX console, the second player will also need a unique Microsoft account. If you want to play online co-op, you will need an active XBOX Game Pass subscription.

PlayStation 5®: If you’re playing split-screen on PlayStation 5®, both accounts will need to have PlayStation Plus and be linked to a Microsoft account. Having these active PlayStation Plus subscriptions will also provide access to online co-op play.

Steam: If you’re playing via Steam, you will need to link to a Microsoft account.

If you’d like to jump in immediately on July 28, we recommend having an XBOX account created beforehand to help save time once you put the disc in the tray.

The Q&A also clarified several other features fans have been asking about ahead of launch. Halo Studios confirmed there are currently no plans for post-launch content or feature additions, and that Halo: Campaign Evolved will not be expanded into a live-service title. The team says its focus is on recreating the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign and delivering the game’s three new prequel missions.

Players hoping to try the game before release will also be disappointed to learn that there are no plans for a public demo. Likewise, the studio confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will not feature a dedicated Photo Mode or Theater Mode, though players will still be able to use certain Skull modifiers to capture screenshots.

Other notable details include confirmation that Sgt. Johnson’s Stanchion weapon will not be usable by players, Spartan customization will not appear during cutscenes, and LASO will once again use a curated selection of Skulls rather than requiring every Skull modifier to be activated at once.

Halo: Campaign Evolved launches on July 28, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with Premium Edition owners receiving up to five days of early access beginning July 23.
