Here’s a breakdown of key details from Grand Theft Auto 6.
How the Wanted system works
- 6 star system. GTA V had a 5 star system
- Can run off in alleyways and side streets
- Jason & Lucia can split off to distract police
- Cops can identify what you’re wearing and what you’re driving — changing clothes or vehicles can help evade them
- Equipping masks during a crime can prevent police from knowing your appearance
- Hot zones remain in areas where you committed crimes, with police continuing to patrol them for a period of time
- If either Jason or Lucia is arrested, the traditional ‘Busted’ screen appears and you’ll respawn into the world — even if the other character is still escaping the crime scene
Map is ‘very big‘
“If you take a bit of time and explore you will be rewarded – a lot. It’s a big map, a very big map.”
The map displayed on the pause screen is much more detailed than previous GTA games, with satellite imagery replacing the previous rudimentary “Google Maps” appearance of the blocks and streets.
Exploration is rewarded, and so there is encouragement to spend time away from story missions. Events and missions are not limited to those found through objective or map icons.

In Grand Theft Auto 6, players may occasionally be blocked from progressing the main story until they’ve earned enough money. At certain points, Jason and Lucia will need to head into the open world and build up their cash through robberies and other activities before the next part of the story becomes available.
