Erling Haaland had ‘no idea’ who Tom Holland was when he DM’d him

The football star doesn’t watch movies much and thought he was ‘a random person’.

Erling Haaland has admitted he didn’t recognize Tom Holland after the actor invited him to dinner, saying he ignored the message because he thought it came from a stranger. Speaking on the Norwegian interview show A Laget, the Manchester City and Norway striker said he rarely watches movies and had no idea the message was from the actor best known for playing Spider-Man.

“Yes, of course. This is a bit embarrassing, to be completely honest. We were in Monaco at the Formula 1, and then I got a message. I don’t watch movies much, so I have no idea who people are. There was one asking if we could go out for dinner, but I’d never seen him, so I didn’t bother to answer. I didn’t want to answer an unknown person.”

After realizing who it was, Haaland laughed off the situation, adding, “I think I’ll have to send him a message now. I’d completely forgotten about it.”

The lighthearted exchange comes as Haaland’s popularity continues to grow well beyond football. Already one of the sport’s biggest stars, the Norwegian striker has built a massive following in the United States, where highlights of his goals and personality regularly rack up millions of views across social media, including Snapchat.

Tom Holland has since responded, after Jimmy Fallon brought up a Culture Crave tweet about him getting curved in the DMs:

After the story went viral on social media, along with Jimmy Fallon bringing it up, Haaland has since responded to the Fallon Tonight Instagram post about and agreed to meet Tom Holland!
