Robert Eggers, the visionary director behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman, has an exciting lineup of upcoming films and series. Here’s a full breakdown:
Werwulf (Christmas 2026)

Venturing into werewolf mythology, Werwulf is set in 13th-century England and explores the terror and superstition surrounding werewolves during the medieval era, with dialogue accurate to the time period. Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón, continuing their creative partnership from The Northman.
The film is slated for a Christmas Day release in 2026, and Eggers has described it as “the darkest thing I’ve ever written,” which is wild considering some of the disturbing imagery in his past films. His cinematographer also teased that the werewolf design is unlike anything audiences have ever seen.
Labyrinth Sequel (TBA)

Eggers is set to write and direct a sequel to the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth, which originally starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. While the original followed a young girl navigating a surreal, puzzle-like world, Eggers’ take is expected to be darker and more immersive while still honoring the magical elements that made the first film so beloved.
The project will see him collaborate once again with Sjón, and it is being produced by TriStar Pictures and The Jim Henson Company, with Lisa Henson overseeing production.
The Knight (TBA)

The Knight is a medieval epic that Eggers has been developing for several years. Eggers has confirmed that the script is finished, though production has yet to begin. It’s one of his many projects in the works. He says he is always working on 3-5 things at once because you never know what will get greenlit.
Rasputin Miniseries (TBA)

Eggers has long expressed interest in making a miniseries about Grigori Rasputin, the infamous Russian mystic who became a powerful influence in the Romanov court before his assassination.
The 6–8 episode series would chronicle Rasputin’s rise from his Siberian origins to his manipulative hold over the Russian imperial family, likely exploring his charismatic mysticism and rumored ‘supernatural’ abilities.
Unfortunately, the project has stalled due to geopolitical issues, as Eggers wants to film in Russia, which is currently not feasible. Given his dedication to historical authenticity, it seems he’s unwilling to compromise on location—meaning this series may not happen for a while.
Potential Projects
Eggers has also teased two other projects that could come to life in the future:
A Western – Eggers has stated he wants to make a Western, though no details have been shared yet.
An Elizabethan Script – He has started writing a script set in the Elizabethan era.
