Clayface

Daniel Radcliffe rumored to be eyed to play DC’s Clayface

Daniel Radcliffe is rumored to be eyed for DC’s upcoming Clayface film

Hollywood Reporter Jeff Sneider, who has a decent track record when it comes to CBM news, shared a rumor about the upcoming Clayface film, which currently has Speak No Evil director in talks to helm the project.

Here’s what he said in his newsletter:

As far as Clayface goes, I’m told that the script feels like DC’s take on The Substance and that it feels like “the kind of movie you make when you’re building a universe and you’re a dozen movies deep and you need a palette cleanser.” In other words, not one of the first four movies you lead with when you’re building a cinematic universe.
The script apparently calls for an actor in their early 30s, and to that end, I’ve heard two names — one I buy, and one I don’t. And because of that, I’m not going to share the second name. But the first? The first I could actually see…
With Watkins directing Clayface, you may recall that his big box office breakout was the 2012 horror movie The Woman in Black starring… Daniel Radcliffe.
The same Daniel Radcliffe who is coming off an Emmy nomination for Weird: The Al Yankovich Story, and a villainous turn in The Lost City that went over fairly well with audiences, who already adore him. Seriously, I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about “Dan.”
Radcliffe is also a homegrown Warner Bros. talent who wouldn’t necessarily break the bank, and when it comes time to promote Clayface, you know he’d help the studio hype HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, too. The studio practically needs to keep him happy.
Take Radcliffe’s name with a grain of salt — it’s just a rumor at this stage, albeit a credible one.

Other key details we know about Clayface:

• Script was written by Mike Flanagan — he can’t direct due to his commitment to The Exorcist reboot and other projects

• Hollywood horror story

• Follows an actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant but it reshapes his face and form

• Character is not expected to be portrayed as the notorious villain he’s known as in Batman canon

Another DC scooper, who recently reported that Daniel Craig had dropped out of Sgt. Rock before all the Hollywood trades did, says he wouldn’t believe any rumor about casting and claims it’s on pause.

We know this isn’t true though, as Deadline’s ace scooper Justin Kroll said weeks back the casting process has begun, so it’s very believable DC is already eyeing some actors for the role, although he did note that the director would weigh in on the final decision.
