Inde Navarrette didn’t act for over a year after ‘Obsession’ role

The Obsession star Inde Navarrette opens up on how she stayed afloat before her breakout performance.

Despite starring in one of the biggest surprise hits of the decade, Inde Navarrette says her road to success wasn’t nearly as glamorous as many fans might expect.

In a recent interview with Complex, the Obsession star revealed that she went roughly a year and a half without landing a single acting role after filming the horror project in Fall 2024.

“I was auditioning … nothing was sticking,” Navarrette said.

To make ends meet during that stretch, Navarrette turned to other sources of income, including streaming video games on a PC she built herself and working as a dog walker to help pay rent.

Long before her acting career began, Navarrette says entertainment served as an escape during a childhood spent constantly moving around the country. As the daughter of a military family, she attended more than a dozen different schools growing up, making it difficult to build lasting friendships. She found comfort in movies and video games, interests that would eventually help shape her career and hobbies later in life.

The interview also gave fans a glimpse into Navarrette’s sense of humor when she was asked about her “hear me out” list of fictional crushes.

Her top pick?

#1 is Optimus Prime.

She also named Shrek, explaining:

“Shrek … He’s super tall … and protective. I get it.”

And rounding out the list was none other than Disney’s legendary lion king, Mufasa.

Navarrette’s comments come as Obsession continues its unlikely rise as one of the most profitable films in recent memory. Made on a reported production budget of just $750K, the horror film has gone on to earn more than $300M worldwide at the box office.

While Obsession launched Navarrette to a much larger audience, her latest comments serve as a wild reminder that even actors attached to major hits can face long periods of uncertainty.

The actress is next set to star in Invertigo, a survival thriller from the producers of Fall and Obsession. The film follows a group of teenagers who sneak onto a rollercoaster before its official opening, only to become trapped hundreds of feet in the air after a catastrophic malfunction.
