Despite both the Attack on Titan manga and anime having officially concluded, MAPPA recently teased new information related to Attack on Titan: The Final Season as part of the studio’s 15th anniversary celebration. The studio even unveiled a new commemorative visual featuring Mikasa, although it appears this was just all to confirm their involvement with the game.

The series is in an interesting place, as it’s still very popular, and creator Hajime Isayama isn’t convinced he’ll ever surpass it. Speaking in recent comments, Isayama admitted that he may never create another work that reaches the same heights as Attack on Titan, which has sold more than 140M copies worldwide and spawned a global multimedia phenomenon spanning anime, films, novels, video games, and merchandise.

The series first debuted in 2009 and quickly became one of the defining manga of its generation. Its anime adaptation further propelled the franchise into the mainstream, transforming characters like Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Levi Ackerman into household names among anime fans.

While many creators spend their careers chasing a breakout hit, Isayama achieved that success with his very first serialized manga. As a result, the author has acknowledged the immense pressure that comes with following up a franchise as influential as Attack on Titan.
