The Spider-Man: Brand New Day star shared his thoughts on AI when asked during the press tour.

Tom Holland gave a thoughtful answer on AI when asked in a new interview promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey, and his non-alcoholic beer brand Bero for El Hormiguero, one of Spain’s biggest talk shows.
We transcribed it for viewers who don’t speak Spanish:
“Creativity is safe from AI because creativity has to do with the human experience. It’s about emotions, it’s about understanding one another … AI can sift through data … but it doesn’t understand emotions. It doesn’t understand the difference between being happy and being sad … the way artists paint, it’s not about what they’re copying, it’s about expressing themselves … [AI] doesn’t have a soul”
Holland’s comments come as the role of AI in film, television, and the arts continues to spark debate across the entertainment industry. While some creatives like Martin Scorsese have embraced the technology as a tool, others have expressed concerns about its impact on artistic expression and creative jobs, with some directors like Guillermo del Toro saying they’d ‘rather die’ than use generative AI.
Tom Holland will next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which arrives in theaters on July 17, before returning as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31. The former stars an ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton and Cosmo Jarvis, while the latter sees Holland joined by Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Tramell Tillman, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, and Jon Bernthal.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to be one of the darker entries in the franchise, with Holland teasing it as his favorite Spider-Man film yet.
