Russo brothers tease the ‘surprising’ and radical’ upcoming Avengers Doomsday & Secret Wars

The Russo Brothers were asked about the upcoming Avengers films and unsurprisingly remained coy, stating that ‘these movies are going to be a surprise to people. We found a way into the story that’s very exciting to us … but very radical … we think it’s going to challenge audiences.’

When pressed for details about specific characters, including the introduction of new X-Men characters and returning favorites like Deadpool and Wolverine, they skillfully evaded direct answers. Eventually, Joe Russo remarked, “Anybody in the Marvel bag could show up in this movie,” and likely jokingly that they ‘still don’t know’ themselves who will show up.

Chris Pratt was also in attendance for The Electric State premiere and his publicist would not let him answer any question from Deadline related to the upcoming Avengers projects.

Avengers Doomsday is expected to start filming in the next several weeks in London and the cast reportedly includes Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom, Chris Evans likely as a Captain America variant, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Sebastian Stan and Florence Pugh and other members of the Thunderbolts are also expected to return, given if they survive their upcoming film.

The Russo brothers say that Secret Wars will film relatively right after Avengers Doomsday is finished. Currently they are slated to release on May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027.
